Kitchens: The Heart of the Home

Think back to the last in-home parties you’ve attended or hosted. Where did most of the guests mingle? If you answered, "the kitchen," your party experiences are now the norm. No matter how hard you try to steer people into other common areas of your home, everyone loves to be in the kitchen. Why?

It’s because kitchens are the heart of the home. They are the center of a large part of our daily activity. They are cozy and inviting. They are warm and filled with wonderful aromas. They are one of the best rooms in the home to show who we are and display our personality. They have become our entertainment showpiece.

So, when designing your home it’s really important to get the kitchen right - right for you, your everyday needs and for entertaining. That means working with your architect or plan designer, builder and kitchen specialist to:
- avoid mistakes that cause inefficiencies,
- include design features that increase efficiency and
- design the space to reflect your lifestyle and finish preferences.

With us and our kitchen specialist, it has becomes a very individualized process. Each home requires its own detail depending on its size and shape and the individual requirements of the homeowner. We work with a kitchen layout from a stock plan or design by your architect or plan designer and make suggestions to improve the kitchen’s function...and, oh yeah, we help you do it within your budget! We go beyond the standard kitchen layouts , i.e., galley, "L," Double "L," and "U" - with or without islands, to customize the space to fit your room and requirements.

Once your kitchen layout is finished on paper, we mark the floor where the cabinets, islands and appliances may go. You can actually walk through and around your kitchen before any items are selected.

Now you’re ready to make some final selections. Our kitchen specialist offers a wide variety of cabinet manufacturers with various price points. Each one maintains a level of quality that will stand the test of time in your kitchen. We spend as much time as you need to explain all of your options. We guide you through every step of the process.

Cabinets. Cabinets are the major part of your new kitchen. They are a large part of the budget and have a big impact on the look you are trying to achieve. Our kitchen specialist has a number of options, in every style, finish and budget, from which to choose.

We offer premier lines with all plywood construction, easy-glide and self closing drawers and doors, furniture quality hinges and hardware and eco-friendly glues and substrates. All come with an enormous choice of stained, painted and glazed finishes.

Other brands combine a mid-range price point and an impressive look. Most of these are comparable to those seen at home centers nationwide. Why not just order from Home Depot or Lowe’s, you ask? First, they require all the money for material and installation up front...before you order. If something is ordered incorrectly or installed improperly, you have no recourse to correct the misadventure. Second, much of the expertise our kitchen specialist brings to the process is in design, fit and installation. Anyone can buy expensive cabinets, but improper installation will ruin even the finest in custom millwork. We make sure all our cabinets are a custom fit.

Other brand cabinets can provide you with a budget-pleasing option and a pretty face. The cabinets use metal box drawer construction and melamine substrates. They are still very functional and will provide many years of excellent service but with less initial expense. They, too, come with multiple size and finish options to give your kitchen a custom look for less.

Countertops. Granite, Corian and slate are our most popular choices. They are competitively priced with other materials and have a full range of color and pattern choices. During your selection of countertops, we discuss the different traits of each including porosity, scratch resistance and maintenance requirements. Understanding all attributes of a product help you make the choice that is best for you.

Appliances. Jim Beard Homes is a contract distributor for GE appliances. Basic, Profile, Cafe and Monogram lines are available in a variety of finishes and a variety of features and options. We purchase direct and pass along our cost to you. We also help you select and purchase other name brand appliances of your choice.

Extras. You dream it, we can build it. Built-in wine coolers, custom display cabinets for your special china and glassware, an area for your computer, an outdoor kitchen or fire-pit, an island space that includes a food prep area and casual seating...the list goes on.

Any must-have for you is a can-do for us. We work with you to prioritize your heart’s desires. We can help you make your kitchen the heart of your home.
