Meet the Broadbent's

Jim and Joan Broadbent

Harborside

Year built: 2008

With its warm and welcoming combination of stone, shake siding and combination roofline, the Broadbent home beckons you to enter. An impressive rear view includes columns, an octagonal porch and arched windows. The home design optimizes its lake view from almost every room.

With around 3,100 sq. ft. of finished living area, the Broadbent’s home provides more than adequate space for daily activities, weekend guests and casual entertaining. Of course, Abbie enjoys her new home, too.

In addition to the conditioned living area, the home has about 1,800 sq. ft. of garage, workshop, decking and screened porch on the first level, with a covered patio off the lower level family room. Of this, the 200 sq. foot screened porch is their favorite and most-used "room."

At first Joan thought making materials and design decisions would be daunting. Now, she’s our greatest salesperson. She often explains to folks how easy her decisions became with our staff’s assistance along the way.

Working from a modified stock plan, Jim and Joan chose to apply a "flex-space" concept. For example, they use the dining room from the plan as an office. With the addition of a small bay window off the breakfast area, they use the formerly informal space as a casual and formal dining area. As a result, views of Lake Greenwood can be enjoyed during all meals.

Another unique design element the Broadbent’s enjoy is their master bath vanity alcove. It separates the preparation area of the bath from the bathing side with a subtle arched doorway.
