Meet the Lavigne's

Bill and Wanda Lavigne

The Rapids

Year built: 2008

Bill and Wanda Lavigne asked us to build their custom home in beautiful North Augusta, S.C. Some unique features include a secret office hide-away above the kitchen, a hanging bed on the lower back porch built from cedar and jute roping, and a conditioned wine room.

We first had to overcome some major engineering challenges that not all builders would be capable of handling. The Lavigne’s lot overlooks the Savannah River and has a 60 ft. cliff-like drop. The basement floor fill material alone constituted over 35 tandem loads of virgin fill material that was packed, leveled and tested every 6 inches. Then we installed 1 inch diameter re-bar every 24 inches vertically and horizontally to assure the structural integrity of the poured concrete foundation walls. The footings and lower slab were all tied together in the same manner.

Due to their busy schedules, we had to be flexible. We worked with the Lavignes during non-traditional business hours to help them manage the details and decisions they needed to make.

We worked with their interior designer, Roger Sidener, to fulfill some unique design ideas as well. Knowing that their window treatment plans included heavy, custom-made draperies, we made sure there was extra blocking in key areas to support the weight of the fabrics. Lee also designed the fireplace surround and mantle to fit with their style choices.

The end result is a one-of-a-kind, dramatic home that reflects the unique personalities of the Lavignes.

Whatever size or style home you choose to build on any type of property, we take the time, provide the care and make sure your home is structurally sound, esthetically pleasing and designed to meet your unique needs.

Welcome
This year, the first contract home I built in 1985 came up for resale. Those same first owners contacted my wife, Betty, to market their home. That really made me feel good that our relationship had lasted over all these years.
